Building SeliEly with my two daughters
I’ve been working on a new project called SeliEly together with my two daughters, who are 13 and 14. It started as an idea for a personal AI assistant that helps with everyday life — tasks, calendar, school, reminders and family organization. What makes this project special to me is that many of the ideas actually come from them. They tell me what they would use, what feels unnecessary, how features should work, and what an app for their generation should feel like. I turn those ideas into the product. We’ve also been experimenting with things like Skills, Rewards and separate teen/parent experiences. Still a work in progress, but it has been a really fun project to build together. Would love to hear what you think about the idea.
This is genuinely one of the most wholesome build-in-public stories I've seen here — building it WITH your daughters instead of just for a demographic you're guessing about is such a smart move, they're literally your best source of ground truth. The separate teen/parent experience + Skills/Rewards angle sounds like it could make the "chores and organization" stuff actually feel fun instead of like a nagging app. Curious how you're handling the balance between what a 13-year-old wants vs a 14-year-old wants — did their ideas diverge much? The beautiful thing about SeliEly is that Seli and Ely — Selin and Alina — have completely different personalities. 😄 One is definitely the doer: practical, direct, and always focused on how things should actually work. The other is the creative one, constantly coming up with new ideas and looking at things from a completely different angle. And somewhere in between is Dad, who has to figure out how to turn both worlds into code. 😂💜 I think that mix is exactly what makes building SeliEly together so special: two very different perspectives, lots of ideas — and Dad as the developer who has to make it all work. 😄
