Signing up means handing Snikus some real information about you and your startup. That's the deal — other founders need to be able to find you, message you, and trust that you're an actual person. This page lays out what we collect, why we bother collecting it, and what you can do about it.
Short version: we collect what a social platform for founders actually needs to work, none of it gets sold to advertisers, and Settings lets you see or delete almost all of it yourself. No email required, no waiting on us.
What we collect
The basics from signup: name, username, email, date of birth. The DOB exists purely to check you're old enough to be here — it never shows up on your profile. Then there's everything you choose to add on top of that — bio, location, social links, an avatar, a cover photo, languages, interests, whatever you fill in.
Everything you actually create on the platform counts too: threads, comments, your startup's page, milestones, weekly check-ins, messages. And the quieter stuff that makes the product function — who you follow, what you've upvoted, karma, achievements, which notifications you've turned on or off.
A few technical records get kept in the background: when you signed in, roughly what device or browser you're using, and the "last active" status next to your name unless you've switched that off in Preferences. And if you write in to Support, we hold onto that thread so we can actually follow up instead of starting from scratch each time.
How we use it
Mostly just to run the features you're already using — your feed, notifications, DMs, your startup's public page, karma and the rankings, the "people you might know" suggestions. Some of it goes toward keeping the place honest: catching fake accounts, slowing down abuse, looking into reports. And some of it is what lets us email you a security code, reply to a support message, or occasionally let you know something relevant is happening on the platform, if you haven't opted out.
We don't build advertising profiles out of any of this, and it doesn't get sold to data brokers. Full stop.
Who sees it
Your profile, threads, comments, and startup page are public — that's kind of the whole point of being on a platform built for visibility. Your DMs stay between you and whoever you're messaging. Nobody else ever sees your email, your date of birth, or obviously your password.
A handful of outside providers help us actually keep the lights on — hosting, transactional email, and payment processing for Verified billing — and each of them only gets what they need to do their specific job, under agreements that keep them from doing anything else with it. Past that, data doesn't leave Snikus unless the law requires it, or you've specifically asked us to hand it over, like escalating an abuse report on your behalf.
Your choices
Most of this you can just go do yourself, right now, from Settings — turn off your online-status dot, turn off the typing indicator, hide yourself from the people directory, block whoever needs blocking, swap your email or password, pick exactly which notifications reach you. Something missing that you'd expect to be there? Say so — that kind of feedback actually gets acted on.
Security
Passwords are hashed on the way in — nobody on our end can ever read your actual password, including us. Two-factor login is there for anyone who wants an extra lock on the door. We won't pretend nothing can go wrong, but this isn't a box we're checking to move on.
Retention & deletion
Hit delete on your account in Settings and it's actually gone — profile, posts, comments, personal details, not archived somewhere quietly. Two things stick around anyway: messages you sent stay in the other person's inbox (deleting your side doesn't erase their conversation), and we might keep a bare minimum on file if the law requires it, or to stop someone who was banned for abuse from just signing back up under a new name.
Cookies & local storage
Cookies keep you logged in, remember device-level stuff like whether you've got dark mode on or which chat wallpaper you picked, and power Switch Profile for anyone juggling more than one account on the same browser. None of it is third-party ad-tracking — we don't run any.
