I didn't respond. I went looking for someone older than me.
That was the first move after a boundary of mine got crossed a few days ago.
Not a message. Not a comeback. Not proving a point.
Just find someone I trust, and ask, "How do I handle this well?"
I used to think reacting fast was strength. That the person who responds immediately is the person in control.
Honestly, I don't believe that anymore.
The people I respect most don't skip the pause. They protect it. They know the space between being wronged and responding to it is where judgment actually lives. And once you react, you can't take it back, even if the words were right.
Seeking counsel before you act isn't hesitation. It isn't weakness. It's discipline dressed up as patience, you know.
I didn't have all the answers in that moment. I still don't, fully. But I handled it better because I didn't rush it.
There's a second part to this story. What happened after I got that counsel, and how I actually addressed it. I'll share that next.
